Housing Projects Assistant, Bilingual - Temporary Full-Time, DC

The Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) is a non-profit, tax-exempt community development organization founded in 1991. LEDC’s mission is to drive the economic and social advancement of low- to moderate-income Latinos and other D.C. area residents by equipping them with the skills and tools to achieve financial independence and become leaders in their communities. We achieve our mission through small business development and lending, homeownership counseling and affordable housing preservation.  
 

LEDC’s Housing Department has three program areas: housing counseling, affordable housing preservation, and tenant services. LEDC is a HUD-certified housing counseling agency that helps families in the DC area to buy their first home and save their homes from foreclosure.  LEDC accomplishes these goals by administering DC’s first-time homebuyer programs (HPAP and EAHP), providing financial capability and credit education and counseling, providing foreclosure counseling and technical assistance. Our affordable housing preservation program works to preserve affordable rental housing and prevent displacement of low- and moderate-income tenants through education, organizing educating and running campaigns.   


LEDC seeks a Housing Projects Assistant to provide support around the Housing Counseling Programs administrated by the Housing Department, such as the Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) Program, the District of Columbia Down Payment Assistance programs, Consumer Research, and reporting findings. Administrative support, data entry, outreach, and training support to the Housing Department Programs, and ensure quality service to our clients. The Housing Projects Assistance will report to the DC Housing Counseling Program Manager and Chief of Housing Programs and be responsible for the following:  

Responsibilities  

  • Answer incoming support requests related to the housing programs such as the HAF program, down payment assistance programs for first time homebuyers in the District of Columbia, housing counseling and tenant services – telephonic, e-mail, texts, and other forms of communication as needed 
  • Monitor HAF portal to conduct first contact with new assigned cases  
  • Conduct initial screening of program eligibilities with homeowners and complete the intake phase 
  • Support homeowners to register in the HAF portal, complete the online application process including uploading the supporting documents 
  • Provide assistance to other housing program’s participants as needed 
  • Provide information on LEDC services and referrals to community partners.  
  • Data entry into housing client management system and other portals or systems as needed to document and track client contact information, data related to programs participation, and services provided 
  • Follow up regularly and directly with clients throughout the process to ensure that information is received and submitted in a timely manner and requests are tracked and documented on a regular basis. 
  • Represent LEDC in community events specific to the Housing Department 
  • Provide administrative and technical assistance related to the Housing Department’s services to the Housing Team and clients. 
  • Assist in completion of reports for assigned programs in a timely and efficient manner. 
  • Attending training as needed related to the housing department.  
  • Other duties as assigned to ensure high level of service provided by the organization. 

 

Qualifications  

  • Fluent in Spanish and English (written, spoken, and reading) 
  • Higher Education or 2 years of commensurate work experience  
  • Customer-service oriented person with excellent interpersonal communication skills 
  • Must have friendly, patient and professional demeanor.  
  • Energetic, organized and detail-oriented team player with a commitment to high quality of work; 
  • Ability to multi-task, coordinate several projects simultaneously and prioritize deadlines. 
  • Motivated resourceful self-starter able to work independently  
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Canva, Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, Google Suites, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other relevant software/programs. 
  • Familiarity with databases and information tracking  
  • General knowledge of the housing market and policy in the metropolitan area, a plus 
  • Ability to work in the office up to four (4) days a week or as needed following the organization’s hybrid work schedule 
  • Flexible work schedule, including ability to work evenings and weekends.
