Homebuyer Training - DC (English)

Interested in buying your first home? 

This class is given in English at our DC office. To take the class in Spanish, please register for a class at our MD office.  

In this group workshop you will learn how to successfully navigate each step of the home-buying process in DC or Maryland and obtain a smart mortgage. You will also learn how your credit, personal budgeting, and personal finances impact your future success. LEDC invites a host of speakers --among them a loan officer, real estate agent, insurance agent, and home inspector - to provide an instructional walk-through of the homeownership process. Information will also be provided on programs to assist first-time homebuyers in DC and MD.  
This training meets the requirements for lender and government programs that require first time homebuyer education from a HUD Approved Housing Counseling Agency. 

(If you are a DC resident and are interested in learning whether you may qualify for HPAP assistance, sign up first for the “Orientation to First-time Home Buying and the Programs that can Help.”)

Please do not register for this class unless you have already completed ONE of the following:

-Applied to HPAP, EAHP, or NEAP through an approved Community Based Organization

-Hold an unexpired Notice of Eligibility 

-Hold a NeighborhoodLIFT voucher

-Hold an unexpired Inclusionary Zoning Certificate

-Hold a pre-approval letter from Citibank

Light breakfast and lunch are provided courtesy of the speakers. You are allowed to bring your own food. 

We do not provide childcare, please make the proper arrangements. 

HPAP/EAHP/Inclusionary Zoning/NeighborhoodLIFT recipients & Citibank pre-approved clients are required to RSVP through the phone to have their fee waived. Please call 202-540-7401. 

If above is not applicable every other participant will have to pay:

Price: $50 for single & $75 for couple.

After completing the class, you will have to complete an individual counseling session scheduled for a later date to receive your certificate. There is no fee for individual counseling, following the training.

Inclusionary Zoning Orientation

Inclusionary Zoning (IZ) Orientation: Introduction to the IZ Program for buyers and renters in the District of Columbia!

Interested in buying a home but don’t know if you can?

This orientation provides an introduction to the IZ program that the District of Columbia designed for income eligible households to purchase or rent at below market prices in DC.  Inclusionary Zoning is a law that requires developers to set aside a certain number of units for low-to moderate- income households. Participants will receive their Inclusionary Zoning Certificate after successful completion of this 2 hour orientation and once attendance is confirmed. IZ Certificate will be valid for 2 years and will give participants an opportunity to enter the Inclusionary Zoning Lottery or renew an existing certificate. 

Once you register please arrive 10 minutes before the class begins.  If you are 15 minutes late you will need to reschedule for the next class. Thank you!

Security Deposit Clinic

Are you renting in DC, but need help with your security deposit? 

  • LEDC can help with up to $2,000 for your security deposit. 

Who can apply? (one of the following)

  • Head of household that is disabled
  • Head of household that is a single parent
  • Head of household that is elderly
  • If you do not exceed the income limits:

How can I participate in the clinic?

  • Attend the clinic ONLY if you have already been approved for the rental and can bring proof to the clinic for admission
  • Register through this link
  • You can only apply if this is the first time requesting this type of assistance from LEDC

What will happen during the clinic?

  • You will receive an intake and list of documents for an appointment to submit your request
  • You will review the application process
  • You will schedule an appointment to submit your request, the entire process will take up to a month
  • You will NOT receive funds on the day of the clinic. 

Once registration is full, you will need to register for the next month's clinic. Attending the clinic is the first step for requesting assistance.
