Internships

Interns work closely with program staff and contribute to the success of EWI’s programs, initiatives, and partnerships! 

The position requires administrative work as well as community organizing. This is a hands-on opportunity for someone who is a self-starter, willing to learn fast, eager to give back, and able to commit and get things done. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Provide ongoing administrative support in the management of the EWI’s Entrepreneur Pathways for Women programs, including applicant intake management; scheduling and conducting interviews with new clients; follow through and overseeing the intake process; and tracking client data. 
  • Coordinate EWI trainers, mentors, coaches, and guest speakers for program classes. 
  • Research partnerships and opportunities in your local county to raise visibility and invite engagement; attend, network and speak on behalf of EWI at various community events.
  • Expand outreach efforts to recruit and sustain an on-going enrollment of client applicants to EWI’s programs, including partnership development; plan and organize various EWI outreach, networking, marketplace, and programmatic events.
  • Support the operational and functional efficiency of the office to which you are assigned.
  • Assist in marketing various programs and initiatives, communications, and social media. 

This is an unpaid internship. All internship positions are expected to handle general responsibilities including social media (writing, composing and posting content), office/admin (phone, mail, printing marketing materials, ordering supplies, organizing office space, tech troubleshooting, online research) and support at events (set up, outreach, assistance).

Program Support Opportunities

Mentors

Willing to make a difference empowering women through your leadership, business, and mentoring skills? Mentors are vital to the success of our women entrepreneurs. They provide guidance, support, and encouragement to women students to help them develop and launch micro-businesses. We are looking for women mentors to serve in training programs in, Arlington, Baltimore, DC, and Rockville, MD.

Time commitment: presence in  8 classes over the course of 3 months, held on the weekdays in the evening. Length of a class: 2.5 hours.

Guest Speakers

Share practical experience, knowledge, and wisdom about business topics including marketing, communication, managing people, using social media, public speaking, leadership skills, and running a business. We’re looking for people willing to share their personal experience, talk about failure, learned lessons, and how to create success in their businesses and their lives. Guest speakers are invited to present in the area of their expertise during one of our entrepreneurship program classes.

Time commitment: one time 2-3 hour commitment on the classes held weekdays in the evenings.

Judges

We are looking for experts in business and management to take up a role of the judges during our Business Pitch Celebration held at the end of our entrepreneurial programs. At the end of the program, EWI students showcase what they have learned during the program and graduate by presenting their business plans and pitching their businesses. Judges play an essential role in the process, through evaluating the pitches, providing valuable feedback on the business plans, and supporting young entrepreneurs on their journey of leading a successful business.

Time commitment: one-time 2.5-hour commitment during the Business Pitch celebration

Trainers

Are you an experienced instructor with a passion for entrepreneurship and an appreciation of multicultural learners? Become an EWI Certified Entrepreneurship Trainer!

Trainers are vital to the success of our women entrepreneurs. They provide critical instruction, keep the classroom engaged and motivated, and ensure the success of all students to help them develop and launch micro-businesses. We are looking for women to become Trainers-in-Training to serve in our entrepreneurship programs in Arlington, VA, Baltimore, DC AND Rockville, MD

Time commitment: Attend all classes during the entrepreneurship program term (18 classes held twice a week over the course of 3 months). 

Other volunteer opportunities:

Financial and Legal Advisors

Provide financial advice and feedback to clients requesting support in business or personal finances, including pricing products/services, record-keeping, tax preparation, cash flow, budgets, break-even analysis, strategies to improve credit score and other financial matters.

Provide legal business advice including business registration and licensing, intellectual property, contracts, and other legal matters.

Coaches 

Want to share your business, financial, legal or life coaching expertise with women entrepreneurs? Have a few hours to give? We need your help!

Business coaches are part of EWI’s Business Corps Volunteer Program and provide invaluable services to women entrepreneurs in all stages of their business. They are key to helping them address their specific business and industry needs and helping them understand all aspects of entrepreneurship.
