Working families deserve to live in affordable homes and own successful small businesses -- but too many are unable to turn these dreams into reality.
LEDC equips Latinos and other D.C.-area residents with the skills and financial tools to create a better future for their families and communities. Participants in our programs learn how to buy and stay in their homes, take control of decisions affecting their apartment buildings, and start or expand small businesses. The entire D.C. area is stronger when all families have the power to achieve financial independence and join with their neighbors to improve their quality of life.
LEDC provides services in three fields— small business development and lending, homeownership and foreclosure counseling, and affordable housing preservation.
Small Business Development & Lending Services: With our microloans, technical assistance, training, and commercial façade improvements, LEDC helps small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs in the DC area learn basic business skills and access credit to compete, thrive, and provide for their families and communities.
Homeownership and Foreclosure Counseling: LEDC helps people purchase their first home in the District of Columbia through classes, workshops, individual counseling, including credit repair and application packaging for the DC Home Purchase Assistance Program. We accommodate clients’ individual needs to make sure they understand how to make a wise investment in a home. We also provide foreclosure housing counseling in the DC area through our Foreclosure Intervention Program, which helps struggling homeowners to understand their housing options and works with lenders and our clients to negotiate the best long-term housing solution.
Affordable Housing Preservation: LEDC organizes, educates and empowers tenants in the District of Columbia to prevent displacement and secure reliable, long-term, affordable housing.
